The famous 2012 GDC talk 'Juice It or Lose It' showed how adding squash-and-stretch, tweens, particles, and sound effects to a basic Breakout clone made it feel completely different. Vampire Survivors is a masterclass in juice. Enemies explode in showers of damage numbers, gems fly toward you with a satisfying clink, and leveling up freezes the screen with a dramatic flash. The actual gameplay is just walking around, but the juice makes it feel like pure chaos.
