Aim down sights, or ADS, shifts the player's view into a weapon's sights or optic. Mechanically, it usually narrows field of view, reduces movement speed, improves accuracy, and changes recoil behavior. ADS is a commitment button: you gain precision but lose peripheral awareness and mobility. Different shooters tune that tradeoff to define their whole feel, from twitchy arena movement to slow tactical peeking.

Example

Call of Duty made ADS speed one of the most important stats in loadout culture. Rainbow Six Siege uses ADS and leaning to create pixel-angle gunfights where pre-aiming matters enormously. Halo historically deemphasized ADS to preserve hip-fire duels and movement-first combat.

Why it matters

ADS changes the basic grammar of shooters. It decides whether fights are about fast movement, angle discipline, weapon setup, or snap precision, and it directly shapes how players move through every map.
