A cozy fishing game where the fish have too many eyes and the ocean wants to eat you.

Dredge by Black Salt Games combines Lovecraftian horror with fishing simulation, creating an atmosphere of creeping dread underneath a seemingly peaceful island-hopping loop. You are a fisherman arriving at a remote archipelago, catching fish and selling them to townsfolk. But the fish start coming up mutated. The nights grow dangerous. The villagers have secrets. The ocean itself feels hostile. The inventory system doubles as a spatial puzzle (Tetris-style grid packing), and every trip out to sea is a risk-reward calculation between catching valuable deep-water fish and making it back before darkness falls.

Example

Staying out past dark for the first time and watching your sanity meter drain as ghostly lights appear on the water, your boat starts hallucinating rocks that are not there, and the catch in your hold begins writhing. The shift from calm to terror is seamless.

Why it matters

Dredge proved that horror does not need jump scares or gore. Its slow atmospheric dread, layered onto a genuinely satisfying gameplay loop, showed that mixing unlikely genres can produce something entirely fresh.
