The biggest barrier to onchain gaming adoption is not technology; it is user experience. Nobody wants to approve a MetaMask popup, calculate gas fees, or worry about failed transactions while trying to play a game. Gasless gaming abstracts all of this away. Through techniques like account abstraction, session keys, paymasters, and meta-transactions, onchain games can feel identical to traditional ones. Players click "play" and play. The blockchain transactions happen invisibly in the background. The goal is simple: all the benefits of onchain (ownership, permanence, composability) with none of the friction.
Example
A player discovers a game on Baes.app through Farcaster. They click play, create an account with just an email, and start gaming immediately. Behind the scenes, a smart wallet was created, a paymaster covered the gas fees, and every game action is being recorded onchain via session keys. The player has no idea they are using blockchain, and that is the whole point.
Why it matters
Onchain gaming will never reach mainstream adoption if it requires users to understand blockchain. Gasless gaming is not a nice feature; it is a prerequisite. Every successful consumer technology hides its complexity. Electricity, the internet, mobile networks: users do not need to understand the infrastructure to benefit from it. Blockchain gaming must follow the same path.
