Hotel Mario is the bizarre CD-i side branch where Mario opens and shuts doors across hotel floors in a puzzle-action loop that is way more repetitive than the name already implies. The game is mostly remembered for its cutscenes, voice acting, and cursed aura, but the underlying reason it exists is even stranger: Nintendo's collapsed hardware deal left Philips with Mario rights.
