Luigi finally got a whole RPG built around his subconscious, which is as funny and strange as it sounds.
Dream Team takes the series' timing-heavy battles and wraps them around dream-world transformations, giant Luigi set pieces, and a celebratory Year of Luigi mood. It is slower to start than the DS highs, but mechanically rich once it gets going.

Why it matters
It matters because it proves the Mario & Luigi line was still willing to chase high-concept system ideas deep into the 3DS era.
