Day-night board cycling plus a weird little microphone made this one of the more memorable GameCube parties.
Mario Party 6 introduces time-of-day shifts that materially change board conditions, which gives turns more texture than simple dice-roll drift. The included microphone is the kind of optional hardware flourish that could have been a disaster, but instead makes the game feel especially of its era.
Example
Boards transforming between day and night lets the same spaces play differently within a single match, a simple idea that added more life than most series tweaks.
Why it matters
It matters because it is one of the clearest examples of Mario Party still finding fresh board language mid-series instead of coasting on minigames alone.
