The Naughty Dog co-president whose work on The Last of Us crossed from games into prestige HBO television.
Joined Naughty Dog in 2004 as a programmer, then writer/director — co-wrote Uncharted 2, wrote and directed The Last of Us (2013) and Uncharted 4 (2016), then directed The Last of Us Part II (2020). Co-creator and writer of HBO's The Last of Us TV series with Craig Mazin (Season 1 2023, Season 2 2025), one of the most successful video game adaptations in history. Now Co-President of Naughty Dog and reportedly directing the studio's next IP after the cancelled The Last of Us multiplayer project.
Example
Druckmann publicly took ownership of the divisive narrative choices in The Last of Us Part II — including the death of Joel — even as the game became one of the most review-bombed in history. The HBO show's 2023 success retroactively vindicated many of those choices in the public eye.
Why it matters
Druckmann is the rare game director with successful crossover into prestige television, and his career arc — from programmer to studio co-president to TV co-creator — is the modern reference for the AAA narrative auteur path.
