Pizza Tower by Tour De Pizza is a 2D platformer that moves at a speed most games would consider a bug. You play as Peppino Spaghetti, an anxious Italian chef who runs, grabs, suplexes, and combos his way through increasingly unhinged levels to save his pizzeria. The game wears its Wario Land 4 inspiration openly but cranks the speed, expressiveness, and chaos to absurd levels. The hand-drawn animation is wildly expressive, with Peppino's face contorting through dozens of emotions per second. Every level ends with a timed escape sequence back to the entrance that turns the entire stage into a frantic speedrun. The game was built over years by a tiny team fueled by Newgrounds energy.

The escape sequences where you sprint back through the entire level at maximum speed while the timer counts down and every surface explodes behind you. Maintaining a P-rank (never stopping) through an entire escape feels like conducting a symphony of controlled chaos.
Why it matters
