Non-transferable onchain tokens that record player accomplishments, tying reputation permanently to a wallet.
Soul-bound tokens (SBTs) cannot be sold or transferred. When used for game achievements, they become portable proof of feats across games and platforms — you actually beat Malenia, and no amount of money can buy that badge. The model creates lasting gamer-identity infrastructure that survives a game's eventual shutdown, and it could unlock cross-game progression ecosystems.
Example
Farcaster's gaming frames use SBT-like badges for tournament participation. Various Base gaming protocols issue soulbound completion badges. Vitalik Buterin's original SBT proposal specifically called out gaming achievements as a use case.
Why it matters
Soul-bound achievements solve the permanence problem of traditional platform achievements (which die when the service does). They are a primitive for cross-game reputation and one of the more promising bridge between onchain tooling and actual gamer experience.
