Team synergy is the difference between five great players and a great team. It encompasses role clarity, communication style, trust, playstyle compatibility, and shared game understanding. A roster of five superstars can lose to a less talented but more cohesive squad because synergy multiplies effectiveness. It involves knowing your teammates' tendencies so well that coordination becomes instinctive, calling plays without hesitation, and trusting your support player to be in position without checking.

Astralis in CS:GO from 2018-2019 is the gold standard. None of their players were considered the best individually, but their teamwork, utility usage, and communication were so refined that they won four Majors and dominated like no team before. Conversely, the 2022 Team Liquid League of Legends roster had star players but never found synergy and underperformed all year.
Why it matters
