Naughty Dog's 2009 action-adventure that set the template for every cinematic AAA blockbuster that followed.
Uncharted 2 took the first game's strong foundation and turned it into a full cinematic experience: the toppling-building sequence, the train chase, and snowy Nepal set pieces redefined what was possible in console gaming. Its blend of exploration, platforming, gunplay, and character banter became the default template for AAA action games for the next decade. It swept Game of the Year awards in 2009.
Example
The Nepal train sequence is still referenced in action-game design. Nolan North's Nathan Drake performance set the modern voice-acting bar. The Uncharted 4 motion-capture work was built on techniques refined in U2. Nathan Drake cameos across Sony PR to this day.
Why it matters
Uncharted 2 is the cinematic-action benchmark. Every Tomb Raider reboot, Last of Us iteration, and Assassin's Creed set piece owes something to its formula. It is the game that proved Sony's first-party studios could out-blockbuster Hollywood.
